The designer label has had a few lapses in judgment lately, I’m taken by the whimsical charm of this Doctor B Buckle Tote from their cruise collection. It lacks the over-the-top eccentricity of Fendi’s other handbags, which is perhaps why I would consider adding it to my collection. The rainbow-hued stitching on a white leather background smacks of playful ’70s-era style - like something Marcia Brady might have worn out on a dream date with Davy Jones. Fendi Rocks Spring 2009

It appears Spring 2009 will be the season of Fendi bags! I am as shocked as you that I love these bags but I do. Style.com called it the "kangaroo pouch" and WWD called it the "undone birkin"-- Fendi's new lovely comes in every color and material imaginable; crisp white crocodile, black patent, textured lace, woven toile, and what appears to be lizard-- each with a contrasting interior. I love the carefree and effortless look of the bag; the side pouches may be left undone as shown on the runway or pulled up and attached to the turn lock. To me, the only resemblance to the birkin is the square shape; the top and hardware is completely different and a refreshing change from Fendi's usual. The peekaboo see thru woven clutches are also incredibly chic and subtly sexy. I can't wait for the Spring look book to be sent to me.

Fendi Secret Code F3 Satchel

Not feeling the brown water snake version of Fendi’s Secret Code purse? Try this more practical - but just as luxurious - black leather F3 Satchel version. The shape (yep, still small) is the same, but the details make this purse much more wearable and timeless. Fendi Metallic Leather Handbag

Despite the fact that it’s been quite a while since I’ve been genuinely impressed by anything Fendi-created, I’m willing to let bygones be bygones in light of the appearance of the label’s Metallic Leather Bag. In a word, it’s gorgeous. Gleaming bronze leather will always stand out in a crowd of basic golds and silvers, no matter how glamorous those may be. This, though, has an impressive understated side to its elegance, making it ideal to carry no matter what time of day it is. Not many metallic purses pass the day-to-evening transition test, so this lovely Fendi earns points from me.

Fendi Maxi Baguette Shoulder Bag

Case in point? The Fendi Maxi Baguette Shoulder Bag (really? We’re still doing baguettes? Sex and the City ended years ago). On the surface, I’ll admit, there’s absolutely nothing offensive about this bag. It’s black, and it’s hard to argue with black, although it’s boring. The hardware is simple and unobtrusive (which is code for boring). It’s ultra-structured, and has a half leather, half chain shoulder strap that is a little too long for my taste. In fact, the chain is a little too thin, and the leather section of the strap looks like kind of an afterthought. In fact, the entire bag seems like kind of an afterthought. The problem I have is that I don’t see any innovation here - nothing that catches my eye and makes me think about the design of the bag. Sure, the bag works on a practical level - but why pay almost $1600 for this (just because it’s Fendi?) when there are so many other modern, interestingly designed, new-looking bags out there for that amount or less
